Eyelid Surgery and Brow Lift

Eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, can be a wonderful way to refresh your appearance and look more youthful. A brow lift can also help to brighten the eye area, by lifting brows that have started to droop and creating a more open appearance. In some cases, a brow lift and an eye lift can work together for the most comprehensive results.

If you are interested in an eye lift or a brow lift, don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Gregory Brucato at 203-431-7644 to schedule your complimentary consultation.  Dr. Brucato helps patients from Ridgefield, Wilton, Danbury and other areas throughout Connecticut.

What Is an Eye Lift?

There are two types of eyelid surgery: upper and lower. An upper eye lift removes excess skin from the upper eyelid and corrects drooping, allowing the eyes to look bigger, brighter, and more open. Lower eyelid surgery, on the other hand, helps to correct bags and puffiness under the eyes.

Drooping of the eyelids can occur due to genetics, aging, gravity, or all three. It can make you look tired or older than you are. The same factors are at play when it comes to bags under the eyes. As we age, the fat pads under our eyes start to slip downwards, creating puffiness and bags. Removing these bags helps to create a youthful and more awake appearance.

Candidates for Eyelid Surgery

You may be a candidate for upper eyelid surgery if:

  • Your eyelids have started drooping noticeably
  • You’d like to refresh the appearance of your eyes
  • You want to be able to put on eye makeup more easily

You may be a candidate for lower eyelid surgery if:

  • You have significant bags under your eyes that don’t go away after a good night’s sleep
  • You want to improve the appearance of your under-eye area
  • You have bags, not dark circles

It’s important to know that lower blepharoplasty is not considered the best treatment for dark circles under the eyes. If your main concern is dark circles, you may want to look into dermal fillers or laser treatment.

What Is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a procedure to lift the eyebrows higher on the face. If your brows have started to droop significantly, or if you have naturally low brows that you’d like to raise, a brow lift may be right for you.

Dr. Brucato performs surgical brow lifts as well as non-surgical BOTOX™ brow lifts. A surgical brow lift will provide more dramatic results, but will require anesthesia, incisions, and some recovery time. A BOTOX™ brow lift doesn’t require any anesthesia, incisions, or recovery time, but it can only lift the brows a few millimeters and is a temporary solution.

Brow Lift Candidates

Almost anyone can be a candidate for a BOTOX™ brow lift. The results are subtle and only last for 3 to 6 months, so it can be a good way to take a “test drive” and see if you like how it looks to have your brows higher on your face.

For a surgical brow lift, the ideal candidate:

  • Has brows that droop or sit significantly low on the forehead
  • Has realistic expectations and understands the risks
  • Does not smoke and is in good overall health

Dr. Brucato performs endoscopic brow lifts, which only require small incisions along the hairline that can be easily hidden. Endoscopic brow lifts are the most advanced and safest brow lift technique available.

Recovery After a Brow Lift or Eyelid Surgery

Recovery after a brow lift or eyelid surgery is relatively easy and quick. Swelling and bruising may last for a week or two following surgery. You can use an ice pack to help with the swelling, and you’ll be given prescription medication for any pain or discomfort.

You may also experience temporary watering eyes, blurred vision, or light sensitivity after eyelid surgery. Don’t forget to protect your eyes with sunglasses when going outside!

Cost of a Brow Lift or Eyelid Surgery

If your drooping eyelids are causing vision problems, your insurance may cover your procedure. Contact your insurance provider to see if this may be an option for you.

If you’re having eyelid surgery or a brow lift done for purely cosmetic reasons, insurance won’t cover it. However, we do provide cosmetic surgery financing plans through CareCredit. We will be happy to talk to you about financing options during your consultation.

The final cost of your procedure will depend on a number of factors, including how complex your surgery is and how many procedures you want to have. Dr. Brucato will give you an exact quote after your consultation.
