Liposuction

Recovery Time: Varies by treatment area and amount of fat

Sometimes, no matter how much we exercise or how healthy our diets are, we end up with stubborn areas of fat that just refuse to slim down. These pockets of fat are often genetic in nature, making them extremely difficult to get rid of. If you have stubborn fat that bothers you, liposuction may be a good choice.

Liposuction can be a great way to reduce areas of fat that don’t respond to healthy lifestyle changes. It’s a minimally invasive and very effective way to achieve a better body contour, and it requires minimal recovery time as well, making it a very popular procedure.

If you are interested in liposuction, please don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Gregory Brucato for a free consultation by calling 203-431-7644 today. He will take the time to have a personal, one-on-one chat with you to make sure liposuction is the best procedure to achieve your goals. We proudly welcome patients from Ridgefield, Wilton, Danbury and other Connecticut communities.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction involves using a small instrument called a cannula to physically remove fat from targeted areas. It’s usually performed under local anesthesia and sedation. Sometimes it can be performed under only local anesthesia in our on-site operating room.

Dr. Brucato uses power-assisted tumescent liposuction. Benefits of power-assisted liposuction include:

  • Allows your doctor to make very small, precise movements
  • Mechanical vibrations break up fat, making it easier to remove
  • Less force is required, meaning bruising and recovery time are reduced
  • Small areas such as the inner thighs, chin, or male breasts can be effectively treated

Keep in mind that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It can help to contour your body, but you will not lose a significant amount of weight from it. If you are on a weight loss journey, the best plan is to make healthy lifestyle changes and make sure you’re eating right and exercising.

What Areas Can Liposuction Treat?

Liposuction can help to contour the:

  • Abdomen
  • Love handles
  • Flanks
  • Buttocks
  • Bra bulge
  • Upper arms
  • Thighs
  • Chin

Multiple areas can be treated at once with liposuction, and it can be combined with other procedures such as breast augmentation or tummy tuck. Discuss your goals with Dr. Brucato to see if a combination procedure is right for you.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

The best candidates for liposuction are already at or near their goal weight and are committed to leading a healthy lifestyle. If you are significantly overweight or obese, Dr. Brucato may recommend that you lose some weight before undergoing liposuction. Many contour issues can be helped with liposuction.

In addition, good liposuction candidates:

  • Do not smoke
  • Are in general good health
  • Have realistic expectations

Liposuction vs. Tummy Tuck

While liposuction and tummy tuck are both used to slim and contour the body, there are major differences between the two. A tummy tuck is a much more extensive and complex surgery than liposuction, but it can also achieve more. A tummy tuck addresses:

  • Excess fat
  • Sagging skin
  • Loose abdominal muscles

Liposuction does not address sagging skin or loose abdominal muscles. It is purely for removing small areas of fat. If you have significant fat in your abdominal area, sagging skin from pregnancy or massive weight loss, or loose abdominal muscles, a tummy tuck is probably the better choice.

Recovery After Liposuction

Liposuction recovery is typically pretty easy. Most patients only need a few days before they’re ready to go back to work, although if you had a particularly extensive procedure done, you may need up to a week.

There will be swelling and bruising after your liposuction surgery. Swelling usually peaks in the first few days, then slowly begins to dissipate. Don’t be alarmed if the swelling seems to be taking a while to fully go away. Residual swelling from liposuction can take a month or two to fully dissipate, although you should be beach-ready sooner than that.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

Liposuction costs vary depending on location, experience, skill, extent of your procedure, and other factors such as operating room costs. Dr. Brucato will give you an all-inclusive quote following your consultation.

If you don’t want to pay for your entire procedure upfront, Dr. Brucato offers cosmetic surgery financing plans with CareCredit. You can choose your terms and payback schedule from the flexible options available. Everyone should be able to get the body they dream of, so we try to make our services as accessible as possible.
